sunart

when engaged at sunart house, a-nd design studio encountered a fragmented, outdated building with no clear spatial hierarchy. recognising its potential, the client and design team collaborated with darwent architecture to rebuild it, creating a durable, homely space that connects seamlessly with the outdoors.

all finishes needed to be resilient and natural which would intentionally age over time and strengthen the schemes identity and pallet.

drawn from outdoor surroundings – deep hues and shades of greens, browns, reds and terracotta created a warm family environment whilst retaining an arguably neutral canvas for the busy lives of the client.

natural light floods the whole house and played an integral part of our design, considering shape / surface / material / texture / colour and how they would perform in their environments.

we approach residential projects with the same thoughtful concepts as larger commercial schemes to ensure cohesion. a minimal palette was used throughout to create rhythm, avoid clutter, and celebrate functional spaces like the stacked library and open pantry, showcasing their purpose with pride.

we didn’t want to create walls of cupboards to disguise the functionality and instead wanted to celebrate each space for its usage and intention, harmonise with the overall scheme.

light is a vehicle for the rendering of form and space. the quantity, quality and colour of light all affect the perception of mass and volume.

open-plan areas frame picturesque views, flooding the home with daylight. by night, soft finishes and window treatments transform the space into a cosy retreat, balancing function and comfort.
